Highest Buy Price

₹0.00

The most you can pay per unit and still reach your target

Based on the sell price you entered, which is your own assumption and not a forecast. Tax is worked out the way India taxes crypto, on the sell price minus the buy price, with no deduction for fees. TDS is left out because you claim it back. If you have already bought, use the Crypto Sell Price Calculator.

How it is calculated

The calculator starts from the price you expect to sell at and works back to the most you can pay.

  • Highest buy price = sell price × (1 − sell fee − tax rate) ÷ ((1 + target) × (1 + buy fee) − tax rate)
  • Break-even buy price = the same sum with a target of 0
  • Rise needed = sell price ÷ buy price − 1
  • Units you can buy = amount to invest ÷ (buy price × (1 + buy fee))
  • Tax on profit = tax rate × (sell price − buy price) × units. Fees are not deducted
  • Profit = target × amount to invest, which is what the sale leaves after the sell fee, the tax and your cost

Frequently asked questions

Short answers on choosing a buy price and on what this calculator counts.

It shows the highest price you can pay per unit and still reach your profit target, if you later sell at the price you expect. The profit is what is left after the fee on the buy, the fee on the sale and India's tax on crypto profit.

The calculator takes what one unit brings in at your sell price after the sell fee and the tax, and finds the buy price at which that covers your cost plus your target. Say you expect to sell at ₹40,00,000, want a 25% profit and pay a 0.5% fee each way. With 30% tax, the most you can pay is ₹29,07,189.54 per unit.

Because tax and fees take part of the rise. India taxes the rise in price at 30% and does not let you deduct fees. In the example above a 25% profit needs the price to rise 37.59% after you buy, so the buy price sits 27.32% below the sell price.

It is the price at which you would make nothing if your sell price is reached. Pay more than that and you lose money even if you are right about the sell price. In the example above it is ₹39,43,262.41, a little under the sell price because of the fees and the tax on the small rise.

It is optional. Enter the total you plan to spend, including the buy fee, to see how many units it buys at the buy price and what the profit would be in rupees. In the example above ₹1,00,000 buys 0.03422635 units. Selling them at ₹40,00,000 brings in ₹1,36,905.40, and after a ₹684.53 sell fee and ₹11,220.87 tax the profit is ₹25,000.00.

No. It is your own assumption, and the market may never reach it. Crypto prices can fall as well as rise. If you have already bought and want the price to sell at, use the Crypto Sell Price Calculator. To find the average price of buys you have already made, use the Average Buy Price Calculator.
