How it is calculated

A conversion is the amount of the coin multiplied by the price of one coin in Swiss francs.

  • Value in Swiss francs = amount of the coin × price of one coin
  • Fee = value × fee ÷ 100
  • After fee = value − fee
  • One franc buys = 1 ÷ price of one coin

Frequently asked questions

Short answers on converting crypto to Swiss francs and on where the price comes from.

Multiply the amount of the coin by the price of one coin in francs. 0.5 BTC at CHF 50’000 a coin is 0.5 × CHF 50’000 = CHF 25’000. Choose your coin, enter the amount and press Convert to CHF.

From CoinGecko, a price tracker, when you press Get Live Price or press Convert to CHF with the price left empty. It is a market price gathered across exchanges, so it can differ a little from the price on your own exchange and may be a few minutes old. You can type the price your exchange shows instead.

Because an exchange takes a fee, and often a spread between its buy and sell prices. Enter the fee to see what is left: a 0.5% fee on CHF 25’000 is CHF 125, which leaves CHF 24’875. Withdrawing the francs to a bank can cost more again.

Most crypto trading is priced in US dollars, so a coin's price in francs moves with the coin and with the exchange rate between the franc and the dollar. The live price here is already in francs, so there is nothing more to convert. For the dollar figure, use the Crypto → USD Converter.

For most private investors, no: a profit from selling crypto held as private wealth is a tax-free capital gain. Crypto still counts towards wealth tax, and someone the tax office treats as a professional trader pays income tax on the gains. Staking and mining rewards are income. Check with your cantonal tax office if you trade often.

No. The conversion is worked out in your browser. When you ask for a live price, your browser asks CoinGecko for the price of the coin you chose, so CoinGecko sees the coin and your IP address but not the amount. The Privacy Policy says more.
